A brief history

The origin of NedCar, or officially Netherlands Car B.V., dates back to the 1960s when DAF (now DAF Trucks) started with the production of passenger cars in Born, Limburg, in the south of the Netherlands.

In 1975 by the participation of Volvo Car Corporation, DAF Car BV was called Volvo Car BV. Untill 2004  many Volvo models were produced successfully. In 1992,  the name ‘NedCar’ was introduced when Mitsubishi Motors Corporation became co-owner. This led to a unique production facility where different car brands and models are built on the same production line at the same time.

A cooperation agreement was signed between Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and DaimlerChrysler. Volvo subsequently sold its interest and since 2001 Mitsubishi Motors has been sole owner of NedCar; this heralded, from 2004 onwards the production of a new automotive concept in Born: the new Mitsubishi Colt and DaimlerChrysler’s smart forfour. DaimlerChrysler decided to cease production of the smart forfour, just over two years after the production of this model had started.

 NedCar

Since July 2006, production at NedCar has been devoted exclusively to the Mitsubishi Colt (5-door version) and the Colt CZ3 (3-door). As from August 2008 NedCar produces also the Mitsubishi Outlander.

A projectteam headed by Mr. Joost Govaarts (NedCar's President & Chief operating Officer) is exploring the possibilities of better utilizing the production capacity and is therefore investigating whether NedCar can perform work for third parties.
