Just a year after celebrating its 40th anniversary, the plant known today as "NedCar" celebrates another milestone with the 1,000,000th Mitsubishi car to roll off the line, a Colt ClearTec.
This car will be handed over today to the city of Sittard-Geleen, the municipality NedCar belongs to, during an informal ceremony in presence of Mr Sjraar Cox, Mayor of Sittard-Geleen, Aldermen Mr Pieter Meekels, Mr Ruud Guyt and Mrs Ingrid Widdershoven, as well as Genichiro Nishina, President & CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe B.V., Tetsuro Miki Chairman & CEO of NedCar and Joost Govaarts, NedCar’s President & COO.
Located in the Dutch province of Limburg, near Maastricht - at a major European crossroad in the Netherlands, between Germany and Belgium – this factory has brought together cultures, expertise and flexibility, like very few other automotive plants in Europe over 40 years of a rich and tumultuous history.
In October 2008 NedCar starts the production of the new model Colt. This new model will be launched at the Paris Motor Show on October 2nd.
NedCar is very proud of this new model and expects to strengthen the position of the Mitsubishi Colt in the B-segment of the market, as a compact and fuel efficient lifestyle car.
Next to the Mitsubishi Colt, since August 1, 2008 NedCar also builds the Outlander. These cars are destined for the European market.

Start of production at NedCar Eighteen months after the retail launch in Europe (Spring 2007) of New Outlander, the next chapter of the car’s successful story starts today with the dedication ceremony of its European production line at Mitsubishi’s NedCar plant, located in Born (The Netherlands). Whilst preparation work has been on-going since September 2007, pre-production started on 13 May, 2008 and actual production on 1 August, 2008, today’s happening marks the official beginning in presence of Maria van der Hoeven – Netherlands’ Minister of Economic Affairs, Osamu Matsumoto – MMC’s Director in charge of Global Production Group Headquarters, Tim Tozer – Mitsubishi Motors Europe’s President & CEO, Joost Govaarts – NedCar’s President & COO, Mr Shibuya - the Japanese Ambassador and government representatives.
In reactie op de oproep om felicitaties te sturen naar het jubilerende NedCar, ontving de Bornse autofabriek vele zakken vol post. Uit zo’n 12.000 inzendingen is de verjaardagskaart van de heer Steinschuld uit Herten getrokken. Hij mocht op vrijdag 27 juni - de officiële veertigste verjaardag van NedCar - zijn splinternieuwe Mitsubishi Colt ophalen. Vanwege het 40-jarig jubileum en de in productiename van drie nieuwe modellen bedacht NedCar een ludieke actie: ‘Feliciteer ons en win een Colt!’. De verjaardagspost is midden in de fabriek uitgestald, waar alle medewerkers ernaar kunnen kijken. Ook de inzending van Rob Steinschuld hangt ertussen, die zeer blij was toen hij hoorde dat hij de winnaar is van de jubileum-Colt. "Ik ben echt supergelukkig met deze prijs, mijn familie rijdt al jaren Mitsubishi en mijn eigen auto was inmiddels aan vervanging toe".
In vier decennia heeft NedCar vele mooie en sommige minder mooie momenten meegemaakt. Dit jaar kreeg NedCar van moederbedrijf Mitsubishi Motors de opdracht om drie nieuwe SUV’s te gaan produceren: de Mitsubishi Outlander, Peugeot 4007 en Citroën C-Crosser. De toekomst van NedCar ziet er dus goed uit en de fabriek heeft honderden nieuwe collega’s nodig, de werving hiervoor is in volle gang. NedCar is vooral nog op zoek naar productiemedewerkers voor de afdelingen Logistiek en Productie.
